為什么要鑄合背錢呢?有的是工匠在鑄錢時合錯了范,誤將兩塊面文范合在了一起;有的是為了某種需要而特鑄的,如宗教迷信和民俗等方面的需要。“合背錢”顧名思義兩面文字完全一樣。在合背時,兩面是同一個方向的稱“正合背”;有的是一正一反,稱“倒合背”;有的則一橫一豎,稱“十字合背”,等等。而此枚合背雙旗幣屬于鑄幣過程中的失誤,但卻發行了出來,且到了我們藏友手上收藏實屬不易! 合背錢在大量的流通貨幣中只占極少數,所以不易發現。因此被收藏家所珍愛。清末民初是個動蕩的年代,1911年辛亥革命勝利后,清帝退位。中國民主主義革命的先驅者孫中山在頒布的“臨時令”中提出要“另刊新模,鼓鑄紀念幣”,隨后武昌和南京兩處造幣廠率先鑄行了“開國紀念幣”銅元輔幣,以十文面值的為主,在全國大量發行以取代清朝銅元。另有二十文,五十文,百文和二百文等面額,這就是“開國紀念幣”銅元的由來。但是當時經濟并不發達,加上連年戰亂,百姓民不聊生。大面額錢幣流通并不理想,所以市面以當十居多,面額二十,五十、當百鑄造并不多,合背錢屬于錯版幣里的大錯版,其稀缺程度更是少之又少!
