2010年2月10日，國際奧委會(huì)在加拿大溫哥華召開第122次全會(huì)，投票選出2014年第2屆夏季青年奧林匹克運(yùn)動(dòng)會(huì)的承辦權(quán)授予中國的南京市。2011年5月19日南京青奧會(huì)會(huì)徽正式發(fā)布。
2014年南京青年奧林匹克運(yùn)動(dòng)會(huì)，簡稱為南京青奧會(huì)。作為世界頂級(jí)奧運(yùn)鑒會(huì)，僅2010年舉辦的青奧會(huì)就已是達(dá)204個(gè)國家和地區(qū)，此次2014年青奧會(huì)規(guī)格勢必超過往屆，青奧會(huì)與奧運(yùn)會(huì)一樣均由國際奧委組審核、確認(rèn)后方可舉辦。與北京2008奧運(yùn)會(huì)規(guī)格同等，每四年一屆兩者徽標(biāo)上遍有五環(huán)標(biāo)志，青奧會(huì)不僅傳承奧運(yùn)體育精髓，更將教育、文化等領(lǐng)域完美融合，由于是專為青年人設(shè)立的國際頂尖賽事，又被人們稱之為奧運(yùn)的未來！
