寶蘇局于清咸豐三年 (公元1853年）冬最先開鑄當十錢。咸豐四年二月,在蘇北清江浦(淮陰)增設寶蘇分局 (淮安分局) , 趕鑄當十、當二十、當三十、當百大錢 。再至咸豐十年 (公元1860年) 四月，太平天國李秀成率軍攻克蘇州, 寶蘇局遂被迫停鑄。
寶蘇局是清代南方地方鑄錢大局，其因江浙地區商業貿易發達用錢量大相關，故而鑄錢量大。在咸豐年間的鑄錢，通寶、重寶、元寶皆具，鑄量較為可觀，最為著名的就是那咸豐元寶當五百。而在其重寶系列里，由當五開始，當十、當二十、當三十、當五十共五等。其中，當二十和當三十兩等最為特殊，可謂清代鑄幣等值之獨有。

But in its heavy treasure series, starts when five, when ten, when twenty, when thirty, when fifty altogether five and so on. Among them, when twenty and when thirty two are the most special, can be said to be the qing dynasty coinage unique.
