故宮作為明清兩代的皇宮重地，館藏歷朝歷代各類文物180余萬件/套。藏品容納歷代錢幣14萬余枚，其中含有代表了中國古代錢幣文化精髓的鎮庫錢和金銀元寶。故宮藏錢雖數量可觀，卻深藏宮闈，世人難得一見。

鎮庫母錢為鎮災驅邪，祈求吉祥富貴，朝廷在鑄幣時，特制一枚大型錢幣，謂之“鎮庫錢”，寓意鎮守國庫。《故宮·鎮庫母錢》以故宮館藏鎮庫錢為原型，遵循“外圓內方”的鑄幣法則，以純銀為材質，采用貴金屬鑄幣工藝，再現鎮庫錢千年歷史印記，傳承故宮錢幣文化。
