梅瓶作為一種儲(chǔ)酒、裝飾等多重用途的器物，是漢族的傳統(tǒng)名瓷。其造型特點(diǎn)不離小口、短頸、豐肩、瘦底、圈足的基本特征，因小口只能插梅枝而得名。近代許之衡的《飲流齋說瓷》一書這樣描述：“梅瓶口細(xì)而頸短，肩極寬博，至脛稍狹，抵于足微豐，口徑之小僅與梅之瘦骨相稱，故名梅瓶。”梅瓶不僅作插花裝飾用，在宋代也是一種酒器，上海博物館收藏的一對(duì)磁州窯白地黑花梅瓶的瓶身有“清沽美酒”與“醉鄉(xiāng)酒海”的詩句，這便是對(duì)梅瓶做儲(chǔ)酒之用的有力證據(jù)。梅瓶始見于唐代，盛行在宋代，宋時(shí)也被稱作“經(jīng)瓶”，作為儲(chǔ)酒之用，當(dāng)時(shí)在大小酒鋪里都能見到。宋代的梅瓶器形清瘦，足長且近于直線，小圓底。元明清時(shí)期，隨著景德鎮(zhèn)瓷窯青花瓷的流行，梅瓶也日趨風(fēng)行。元代梅瓶繼承宋代形制，只是肩部更加豐滿，器形除圓形外，尚有八角形制品。明代開始稱之為“梅瓶”，器形也從宋時(shí)的瘦長秀麗變得胖矮豐碩，器物整體重心下移，足部微微外撇，并由儲(chǔ)酒器變?yōu)殛愒O(shè)器。清代梅瓶肩豐碩而挺闊，脛部內(nèi)收，至近底處又微撇。

Meiping was first seen in Tang Dynasty and prevailed in Song Dynasty. It was also called "Jingping" in Song Dynasty. It was used for wine storage and can be seen in all kinds of wine shops at that time. In Song Dynasty, the shape of the plum vase was thin, the foot was long and close to a straight line, with a small round bottom. In yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, with the popularity of blue and white porcelain in Jingdezhen porcelain kiln, plum vase became more and more popular. The plum vase of Yuan Dynasty inherited the shape of Song Dynasty, but the shoulders were fuller. Besides the round shape, there were octagonal products. Ming Dynasty began to call it "plum vase". The shape of the vessel also changed from thin, long and beautiful in Song Dynasty to fat, short and plump. The overall center of gravity of the vessel moved down, the foot slightly turned out, and the wine storage vessel became the display vessel. In the Qing Dynasty, the shoulders of plum bottles were plump and wide, the shins were closed in, and the bottom was slightly skimmed.
