唐代以前的貨幣差不多都以重量為名稱(chēng)。唐高祖李淵武德四年(621年)始鑄"開(kāi)元通寶"，標(biāo)志了銖兩貨幣體系的終結(jié)和寶文錢(qián)制的建立。"開(kāi)元通寶"錢(qián)以"文"為單位，大小大體仿漢五銖，錢(qián)徑八分，重二銖四，每十文重一兩。這是中國(guó)衡法兩以下改為十進(jìn)位的開(kāi)始。
