荷花盞的胎土是鐵含量很高的鐵胎，這是能燒出各種不同斑紋的主要原因。建盞底胎特點(diǎn)是胎質(zhì)厚重粗糙，顏色一般為深灰或者深褐色，輕輕敲打有類(lèi)似金屬碰撞的聲音。特別值得一提的是，這樣的胎土只能取自福建省建陽(yáng)水吉一帶，這也是為什么全世界喜歡研制建盞的陶藝家都要使用建陽(yáng)水吉的胎土。
