“袁大頭”，是對鑄造于民國初年鐫有袁世凱側(cè)面頭像壹圓銀幣的一種俗稱。因其首鑄于民國三年，又有稱“民三”者，此類別稱由來已久。作為民國軍閥銀幣的領(lǐng)頭羊，“1931年，國民黨反動(dòng)派對蘇區(qū)進(jìn)行軍事圍剿和經(jīng)濟(jì)封鎖，紅色政權(quán)對敵斗爭環(huán)境十分惡劣，為了適應(yīng)對敵斗爭形勢的需要，紅軍便在從打土豪繳獲來的民國三年‘袁大頭’舊銀元上，在袁世凱頭像右側(cè)打上了‘蘇維埃’的戳記，為我所用，以示區(qū)別，用來發(fā)展革命根據(jù)地經(jīng)濟(jì)，保障紅軍供給和紅色政權(quán)建設(shè)。而國民黨曾將不少蓋有‘蘇維埃’的銀元回爐重鑄，因此蓋有‘蘇維埃’戳的‘袁大頭’并不多見，具有較高的收藏價(jià)值。
