紫檀雕刻從選材到完工非常細(xì)致,需要經(jīng)過烘干、開料、鎪鋸加工組裝、手工砸膘、雕刻、清地、打磨、打蠟等多個環(huán)節(jié)。紫檀雕刻是個細(xì)活單是各種刀具總共就有百余種每一種都有特定的用途.在處理好的紫檀木料上,雕刻師先畫好圖,然后按照圖案一點點鑿開。一般一件雕刻的完成,少則一兩個月、多則數(shù)年,沒有耐心是做不好的。打磨師分別用粗細(xì)兩種紗布反反復(fù)復(fù)地打磨雕刻好的粗坯,最后再用節(jié)節(jié)草進(jìn)一步磨亮,直到暗淡的木頭反射出光芒,打磨才算結(jié)束。

紫檀是珍惜物種,生長周期非常漫長,每百年才長粗大約三厘米,近千年方能成材,紫檀的樹皮呈灰綠色,樹干彎曲不直,因此很難取到大直徑的木材,它的邊材狹窄,木質(zhì)堅硬,內(nèi)部結(jié)構(gòu)緊密,密度大落水即沉,心材呈鮮紅色或是桔紅色,長期暴露于空氣中后顏色會變深,出現(xiàn)紫紅褐色的條紋。紫檀主要還可分為大葉紫檀和小葉紫檀,小葉紫檀的木紋較淺,色澤鮮麗,年輪幾乎微不可見,木質(zhì)細(xì)膩,材質(zhì)優(yōu)良。
