歷史上，辛亥革命爆發(fā)后，北洋新軍創(chuàng)始人袁世凱竊取了革命果實，成為中華人民共和國的總統(tǒng)，隨后又進行復(fù)辟帝制的活動。在其就位期間，為了加強自己的統(tǒng)治地位，穩(wěn)定國內(nèi)時局，同時發(fā)展民族經(jīng)濟，便開始將全國的貨幣進行了一番統(tǒng)一的改造，變革成今天我們所提到的袁大頭銀幣。然而，袁世凱僅僅稱帝83天就被迫宣告退位，在這種情況下，袁大頭貨幣也因發(fā)行量少，使用時間短而成為中國歷史上存世量非常稀少的珍貴錢幣。

However, Yuan Shikai was forced to abdicate after only 83 days as emperor. In this case, Yuan Datou currency has become a rare precious coin in Chinese history because of its small circulation and short use time.
錢幣的正面鑄有袁世凱的側(cè)身頭像，頂部刻制著“中華民國十年造”幾個清晰而又顯眼的楷體字體，足以說明錢幣產(chǎn)生的年代以及當(dāng)時國家的統(tǒng)治階層。反面的圖案則是一對對稱的彎曲麥芒，中間刻有“壹圓”兩個字作為計量單位。幣面整體設(shè)計和諧，圖案精美，工藝技術(shù)特別精益求精。
Yuan Shikai's sideways head is cast on the front of the coin, and several clear and conspicuous regular script fonts of "Made in Ten Years of the Republic of China" are engraved on the top, which can explain the time when the coin was produced and the ruling class of the country at that time.
