距今8000千年前的新時期時代，最早的人們就掌握了制陶技術，特別是到了商代，已經出現了瓷器的雛形。當時已出現一種最早的青釉器，燒紙的溫度可達到1200攝氏度左右，在釉下也刻有各種紋理紋飾，比如雷紋、水波紋、葉脈紋、圓點網紋等等。

鈞窯在其他窯口中最為突出的特點就是其窯口出的瓷器不定性，鈞窯不僅開創了我國窯變釉瓷器的先河，而且鈞窯器物的成型和高超的燒窯技術，一直為后世贊嘆不已，在各大拍賣場，只要出現鈞窯瓷器，都會被買家爭先搶購，早在2013年11月香港佳士得拍賣公司就曾拍賣過一款鈞窯玫瑰紫釉鼓釘三足洗，最終以123萬美金（USD）成交，折合人民幣757萬，此后更是捷報頻出。
