當時王延政為了自己能當上帝王,親手將自己的兄長殺害,并且自己在建州登基,把當時的年號改為了殷,每一位帝王在上位之后,都會發行屬于自己的新錢幣,王延政也沒有例外,下令鑄造了天德重寶。而且天德重寶發行了很多個不同的版本,其中材質分為銅制和鐵制打造,并且銅質的天德重寶還有著大樣和小樣兩種不同的類型之分。這枚錢幣在設計時外形延續了以往的外圓內方的形狀,正面印有天德重寶四個字樣,字體卻有隸書和楷書兩種,全部采用上下左右的讀取方式。
